Dear 2010 Redfish Lake Lodge Triathlon Athletes:
We are very sorry to inform you the 2010 Redfish Lake Lodge Triathlon/Duathlon has been cancelled. In spite of the excellent feedback from athletes who have participated in 2008 and 2009 "One of the best venues we have ever competed in", "The food is the best we have ever experienced at an event", "Very organized and extremely well managed", we are not getting the registrations we need to make this a break-even event. Due to the small number of registrants to date, the Lodge needed to make a decision that justified the time and money necessary to host this wonderful event.
When we launched the triathlon, we knew we were up against a very risky date requirement. The U.S. Forest Service, our partner and permittee for the event, has bylaws which require the event be held on or before June 21, or on or after September 15. These date restrictions have made it extremely difficult to host the event during a time when an athlete will not have to deal with extreme water temperatures.
We express our gratitude to the U.S. Forest Service who has been extremely supportive in every way of the event. We understand they must manage activity on the National Forest to protect all visitors and resources and Redfish Lake Lodge was fully aware of the potential date challenges from the beginning. We are hopeful we can work with the Forest Service to allow for a more acceptable date in the future.
In addition, we want to express our most sincere gratitude to Kenny Krell and Annmarie Kern of 3 Disciplines Racing. We encourage you to visit their website at www.3disciplines.com and check out their event calendar. They are true professionals and the best in the business.
We are very sad this decision had to be made. We welcome any comments or constructive feedback you may have.
Sincerely,
Jeff Clegg
